I want to get more comfortable being uncomfortable. I want to get more confident being uncertain. I don’t want to shrink back just because something isn’t easy. I want to push back, and make more room in the area between I can’t and I can.

Regarding the Boxtrolls post I just reblogged, I don’t really like the phrase “throw the gay at you.” I can understand Laika being limited in how they represent minorities because of close-minded producers or the dumb people who rate movies, so a character they probably really wanted to be gay was instead shoved into being the butt of a joke. That’s what I tell myself anyway, and that’s how I prefer to view it unless proved otherwise. But in this trailer they aren’t “throwing the gay at you.” They’re doing what they should have done in their last movie and being frank about it. Does that mean there will be the same representation in the film? Well, we won’t know until it comes out. Probably not. Like I said, there are still a lot of problems in the industry that keep minorities from being properly represented, despite what creators might want. That’s why the internet is so important. Here we can make stories where minorities are respected and treated as people. Eventually things in the industry will move the right direction, so long as we keep the dialogue going with the same respect we expect to see from mainstream media.

This is getting long, so I’m gonna stop talking now. I can’t wait to see the Boxtrolls. Considering that trailer, I’m really hoping the same sentiments will be shown in the movie. We’ll see.

I literally just went from aw to wtf.

there was this big uproar over a character from paranormal being gay, so what do they do? next movie, they make a commercial that THROWS THE GAY IN YOUR FACE. They’re literally not being subtle at all about their queer representation and I fucking love them for it

Throw the gay in your face is perhaps the best thing I’ve heard all week.
